In the s, their leaders were chiefs like LaGlace and Pouce Coupe, names given by French traders who could not pronounce their Beaver names.
In , after incursions by fur traders, missionaries and Klondike gold seekers, they accepted Treaty No. Soon after the turn of the century, settlers began to squat on the un-surveyed land. This group had arrived from Lac St. Anne in the late s. In , Dominion Land Surveyors began to pound in survey stakes, and serious settlement began. That year, the Bull Outfit, a group of settlers from Ontario came over the Long Trail, along with other settlers. In the Edson Trail was opened up as a shorter way to get into the south Peace and a wave of settlement began.

April On April 29, in the midst of an election, the Alberta government planned another major auction of new oil and gas leases on 35, hectares km2 of endangered mountain and boreal woodland caribou habitat, without rules to reduce surface disturbance below current excessive levels.
Since September the Prentice government has auctioned over km2 of Alberta caribou ranges for oil and gas leases. On March 6, the Alberta government postponed the auction within the endangered Redrock Prairie Creek mountain woodland caribou range. Following this decision, the Alberta government posted new energy leases for sale in the same endangered mountain caribou range in west central Alberta where it cancelled lease sales on March 6.

The Christian Association was formed in by a small group of Methodist ministers who became disenchanted with the Methodist doctrine of the time. Elias Smith, found that farming in Ontario was not profitable, and in decided to come West, where land was practically free, and sod had never been turned in many places. They did not come with the intention of converting anyone to their beliefs. When word got out of their plans, four more couples with their families decided to join the Smiths, then six young single men, looking for a lark, were added.
Of the group some were adherents of the Christian Association, but the young men themselves did not belong although their parents did. None of them came as missionaries. They all settled in the Beaverlodge area in the Peace River Country. There are seven bound volumes and eight booklets of newsletters. They originated with Rev. Nelson Burns in , and contain the teachings of the Christian Association, and articles and obituaries of members, including those in the south Peace. The photograph includes the following people who all came to Beaverlodge Alberta to live, except those listed in brackets.

Overtime would solve nothing and it would take 8 rounds of the shootout before Adam Novakowski slipped one past Spirit River netminder Alex Wright to seal an important two points for the Athletics. The win comes at a much needed time for Grande Prairie as they have struggled mightily against the Rangers dating back to last year. An entertaining game to say the least as fans who braved the cold Alberta weather were treated to another typical hard fought game between these two teams.

Rocky Mountain House became a firmly established town by Settlers of Scandinavian origin made up a significant part of early 20th century settlement in the region.

The fort facilitated trade with the Blackfeet and Piegans as well as the Kootenays across the mountains. The Kootenays were prevented from reaching Fort Edmonton by the Blackfeet and Piegans who wanted to profit as middlemen and keep them from getting guns.
The fort also served as a base for finding a pass across the Rocky Mountains. The post also produced pemmican and York boats. They were on the north bank just above the Clearwater and strongly built for protection from the Blackfeet. During low water there were rapids near the post. Around , only two stone chimneys were standing.
